4.12 The reaction between A and B is first order with respect to A and zero order with respect to B. For this reaction, fill in the blanks in the following table.

Experiment [A] mol/L [B] mol/L Initial rate mol/L/min
I 0.1 0.1 2.0\times 10^{-2}
II - 0.2 4.0\times 10^{-2}
III 0.4 0.4 -
IV - 0.2 2.0\times 10^{-2}

The given reaction is first order wrt A and zero order in wrt B. So, the rate of reaction can be expressed as;
 Rate = k[A][B]^{0}
Rate = k[A]

from exp 1,
2\times 10^{-2}=k(0.1)
k = 0.2 per min.

from experiment 2nd,
4\times 10^{-2}=0.2[A] \\
[A] 0.2\ mol/L

from experiment 3rd,
rate =(0.2\ min^{-1})\times (0.4\ mol/L)
           = 0.08\ mol\ L^{-1}\ min^{-1}

from the experiment 4th,

2\times 10^{-2}=0.2*[A]
from here [A] = 0.1 mol/L
