Q5. Two numbers are in the ratio 5:3. If they differ by 18, what are the numbers?

Given that numbers are in the ratio of 5:3, so we can assume numbers to be 5x and 3x.

Also, the difference between these numbers is 18, so the equation becomes

       5x - 3x = 18

       2x  = 18

Dividing both sides by 2, we get 

      x = 9

Hence the two numbers are 5\times9 = 45 and 3\times9 = 27
