What is a disease? How many types of diseases have you studied? Give examples

The disease is the cause of change in either the functioning or appearance of one or more systems of a body. These changes worsen the state of a healthy body and lead to the malfunctioning of one or more organs.

The four types of diseases studied are mentioned below:

  1. Acute diseases: The diseases which last for a certain (mostly short) period are termed Acute diseases.

Examples are viral fever and Flu.

  1. Chronic diseases: The diseases which last for a long span of time (in some cases for a lifetime) are termed Chronic diseases.

Examples are Elephantiasis and Tuberculosis.

  1. Infectious diseases: The diseases caused by infectious agents such as viruses, bacteria, fungi, and protozoans are termed infectious diseases.

Examples are chicken Pox and HIV/Aids.

  1. Non-infectious diseases: The disease which cannot be transmitted via infecting agents are termed Non-infectious diseases.

Examples are cancer and Diabetes.
