Q.4. What is the function of receptors in our body? Think of situations where receptors do not work properly. What problems are likely to arise?
The function of receptors is to detect the information from the environment. These are located in our sensory organs like the eye, ear, skin, nose, and tongue. For example- the olfactory receptor detects the smell. If these receptors do not work correctly, there will be a delay in getting information from the environment to the brain or spinal cord. Due to this, the reaction to the information is also late, which causes harmful effects on our bodies. For example,- if skin receptors are damaged, then we cannot get the heat as a stimulus. And if we accidentally touch the hot object, then our hands might get burned.
