What would you observe, when
(a) a saturated solution of potassium chloride prepared at is allowed to cool to room temperature
(b) an aqueous sugar solution is heated to dryness
(c) a mixture of iron filings and sulphur powder is heated strongly?
Solution:
(a) The solubility of potassium chloride decreases with decreasing temperature. Therefore, on cooling, crystals of potassium chloride will separate out.
(b) On heating, the water will start boiling and completely evaporate to dryness.
Finally, in the pot, we will be left with only black sugar.
(c) At high temperatures, they will react, and iron sulphide is formed when a mixture of iron filings and sulphur is heated strongly.
