From 40 liters of 2: 3 milk-water solutions, 5 liters are withdrawn and replaced by 5 liters of water. Now, 8 liters are withdrawn and replaced by 8 liters of water. Finally, 10 liters are withdrawn and replaced by 10 liters of water. What is the ratio of water to milk in the solution now?
40 L solution = milk = 2/5 x 40 = 16 L
Water = 16 liters
5 L withdrawn means = 5/40 =1/8 part taken out
Means = 1/8 x16 and 1/8 of 24 L = 2L milk and 3 L water
Now milk = 14 L
Water = 21 L
5L water added = 14 L , 26 water
8L withdrawn = 1/5th part = 1/5 x 14 = 2.8 milk
=1/5x 26 = 5.2 L water
Now milk = 11.2 liter
Water = 20.8 liter
8 L added = milk = 11.2 L , W = 28.8 L
Now 10 L taken out = milk= 11.2 – 1/4 x11.2, water 28.8 -28.8 x ¼
M= 8.4L
W= 21.6L
10 L added M= 8.4 L
W= 31.6 L
Ratio= 31.6:8.4 = 79:21
