\\ Let \ 2 x$ be the length of the journey.\\ \\ $\frac{x}{40}+\frac{x}{60}=8$\\ \\ $\frac{3 x+2 x}{120}=8$\\ \\ $5 x=120 \times 8$\\ \\ $x=24 \times 8=192$\\ \\ \\ \\ The length of the journey $=2 \times 192=384 \mathrm{kms}$
