(a) Calamine (ZnCO_3) is zinc ore whereas malachite (CuCO_3\cdot Cu(OH)_2) is a copper ore.

(b) Zinc is used instead of copper for recovery of Ag from [Ag(CN)_2]^- as zinc is a powerful reducing agent and the product (zinc cyanide) formed is easily disposible.

(c) Cryolite (Na_3AlF_6) decreases the melting point and increases condectivity.
