The photodiode is a special purpose Pn junction diode operated under reverse bias
When a photon of energy
energy gap of the semiconductor falls on the photodiode electron-hole pairs are generated.
Due to the electric field at the junction, the electrons and holes are separated before they combine.
Electrons are moved to n side and holes are moved to the P side.
Now a potential difference is created, when connected to external load a current flows.
The magnitude of photocurrent depends on the intensity of incident light.
