Answers (1)

(a) No. of atoms of Y in ccp = 4

No. of tetrahedral voids =2\times 4=8

No. of voids occupied by X =\frac{1}{3}\times 8=\frac{8}{3}

Ratio of atoms X and Y =\frac{8}{3}:4=2:3

Formula of compound =X_2Y_3

(b) Metal excess defect due to anionic vacancies which is a non - stoichiometric defect results in colour in alkali metal halide.
