Find the point on y-axis which is equidistant from the points (5,-2) and (-3,2).

Answers (1)

Let the points are (0,y).

As per the given statements,

distance of point from (-5,-2) = distance of point from (3,2)

Applying the distance formula to find the distance

\left [ y-(-2) \right ]^2+\left [ 0-(-5) \right ]^2=(y-2)^2+(0-2)^2

(y+2)^2+25=(y-2)^2+9

y^2+4y+4+25=y^2-4y+4+9

8y=-16

y=-2

Hence the required coordinates of the point are (0,-2).
