The ratio of areas of two similar triangles is equal to the ratio of the squares of any two corresponding sides.

Therefore the ratio of areas is 

\frac{area(\Delta ABC)}{area(\Delta DEF)}=(\frac{1.2}{1.4})^2=\frac{36}{49}
