In a single slit diffraction experiment, the width of the slit is increased. How will the (i) size and (ii) intensity of central bright band be affected ? Justify your answer.

Answers (1)

(i) On increasing the width of the slit, the size of the central bright band will decrease as the angular width is inversely proportional to the width of the slit

(ii)The intensity of the central bright band will increase as the amplitude/intensity of light passing through slit has increased.
