If 1 is obtained by multiplying two numbers, then the two numbers are multiplicative inverse of each other.

=frac89 imes 1frac18\=frac89 imes left (-1frac18 ight )\=frac89 imes left (-frac98 ight )\=-1

Since 1 is not obtained, frac89 is not the multiplicative inverse of -1frac18.
