- made crops more tolerant to abiotic stresses (cold, drought, salt, heat)
- reduced reliance on the chemical pesticide (pest - resistance crops)
- helped to reduce post harvest losses.
- increased efficency of mineral usage by plants ( this prevents early exhaustion of fertility of soil)
- enhnaced nutritional value of food. Example- Vitamin A enriched rice.
