Let x be the HCF and 9x be the LCM. So,

Sum of LCM and HCF =500

9x+x=500

10x=500

LC\!M = 450, HC\!F = 50

so, 9(x) =y

9x-y=0.....(1) 

given that

x+y=500.... (2) 

add(1) and (2) 

9x-y=0

(x+y=500) ×9

so, 9x-y=0

    -9x-9y=4500

:  -10y=-450....... y=450... ans.
