A leak proof cylinder of length 1m, made of a metal which has very low coefficient of expansion is floating vertically in water at 0^{\circ}C such that its height above the water surface is 20cm. When the temperature of water is increased to 4^{\circ}C, the height of the cylinder above the water surface becomes 21cm. The density of water at T=4^{\circ}C, relative to the density at T=0^{\circ}C, is close to :
Option: 1 1.03
Option: 2 1.01

As

Buoyant force-

  • The buoyant force is given as

F_B=\rho Vg

Where FB=Buoyant force

         \rho= density of the fluid

            V= Volume of the solid body immersed in the liquid or Volume of the fluid displaced

 So

mg=V\rho g

\mathrm{mg}=\mathrm{A}(80) \mathrm{p}_{0^{\circ} \mathrm{C}} \mathrm{g}$ \\ $\mathrm{mg}=\mathrm{A}(79) \mathrm{\rho}_{4^{\circ} \mathrm{C}} \mathrm{g}$ \\ $\frac{\rho_{4^{\circ} \mathrm{C}}}{\rho_{0^{\circ} \mathrm{C}}}=\frac{80}{79}=1.01$

So the correct option is 2.
