An inductor of inductance L, a capacitor of capacitance C and a resistor of resistance 'R' are connected in series to an ac source of potential difference 'V' volts as shown in figure.

Potential difference across, C and R is 40 V, 10V and 40V, respectively. The amplitude of current flowing through LCR series circuit is 10\sqrt{2}A. The impedance of the circuit is:

V_{rms}=\sqrt{V_{R}^{2}+\left ( V_{L}-V_{c} \right )^{2}}

=\sqrt{\left ( 40 \right )^{2}+\left ( 30 \right )^{2}}=50

V_{peak}=\left ( V_{rms} \right )\times \sqrt{2}

=50\sqrt{2}

Z=\frac{V_{peak}}{I_{peak}}=\frac{50\sqrt{2}}{10\sqrt{2}}=5\Omega
