The heart of a man pumps 5 litres of blood through the arteries per minute at a pressure of 150 mm of mercury. If the density of mercury be 13.6 x 103 kg/m3 and g = 10 m/s2 then the power of heart in watt is :

  • Option 1)

    2.35

  • Option 2)

    3.0

  • Option 3)

    1.50

  • Option 4)

    1.70

As we learnt

Pressure gradient -

frac{dp}{dh}=
ho g

- wherein

Pressure varies with respect to depth / height

 Volume rate of flow=\frac{5\times 10^{-3}}{60} \: m^{3} \slash sec

Pressure=150 mm of Hg

            =fgh = 13.6\times 10^{3}\times 10\times 150\times 10^{-3}

            =20400 N/m2

Power=\frac{dW}{dt}=\frac{d}{dt}\left ( P\Delta V \right )=P\cdot \frac{d}{dt}\left ( \Delta V \right )

         =\frac{20400\times 5\times 10^{-3}}{60}W

         =1.7W

Option 3)

1.50

This option is incorrect

Option 4)
