The energy stored at the consumer level is called secondary productivity. The consumer hierarchy includes herbivores, carnivores, and decomposers. Gross primary productivity is the rate at which light energy is converted into chemical energy in organic molecules in an ecosystem.Net primary productivity is the rate of organic matter storage divided by plant respiration. In other words, it is the biomass available for consumption by herbivores and decomposers. This is the rate of storage of organic materials other than those used by consumers.
