Two long wires carrying current i1 and i2 are placed perpendicular to each other in such a way that they just avoid a contact. Find the magnetic force on a small cross-section dl of the second wire situated at a distance l from the first wire.

Option: 1

\frac{\mu_{0} i_{1} i_{2} dl}{\pi l}

Option: 2

\frac{\mu_{0} i_{1} i_{2} dl}{2\pi l}

Option: 3

\frac{\mu_{0} i_{1}}{2\pi l}

The magnetic field at the site of dl, due to the first wire is:

B = \frac{\mu_{0} i_{1}}{2\pi l}

This field is perpendicular to the plane of the diagram.

The magnetic force on the length dl is:

dF = i_{2} dl B \sin 90\degree

        = \frac{\mu_{0} i_{1}i_{2} dl}{2\pi l}
