Which of the following compounds can be formed from the reaction of carbon dioxide ( \mathrm{CO_2} ) with water?

Option: 1

Methanol

Option: 2

Sodium bicarbonate

Option: 3

Ethylene

Option: 4

Hydrogen peroxide

Answers (1)

The correct option is (2) Sodium bicarbonate (\mathrm{NaHCO_{3}}). Carbon dioxide reacts with water to form carbonic acid, which can further react with sodium hydroxide (\mathrm{NaOH}) to form sodium bicarbonate (\mathrm{NaHCO_{3}}) as follows:

\mathrm{CO_{2+}H_{2}O\rightleftharpoons H_{2}CO_{3}}

\mathrm{H_{2}CO_{3}+NaOH+NaHCO_{3}+H_{2}O}.  Hence option B is the correct answer.

Option (1) is incorrect because they are not products of the reaction of \mathrm{CO_{2}} with water.  Hence option 1  is incorrect.

Option (3) is incorrect because they are not products of the reaction of \mathrm{CO_{2}} with water.  Hence option 3 is incorrect.

Option (D) is incorrect because they are not products of the reaction of \mathrm{CO_{2}} with water.

Hence option B is incorrect
