Find the heat needed to convert 10g of ice at 0 celsius to water at 20 celsius

Answers (1)

Heat energy needed = energy required to convert ice to water+ energy required to rise the temperature of water from zero to 20 degree celcius.

The Latent Heat of Fusion for ice is 384J/gram.

So 10 grams of ice require:

10X384 = 3840J of energy.

The specific heat capacity of water is:

4.184J/g/°C.

 10g water from 0°C to 20°C require:

10X20X4.184 = 836.8J

Total energy required

= 3840 + 836.9

= 4676.9J
