Afforestation means plantation of trees. As we know that forests are essential for human life and animal Kingdom as well as. They are blessings of Nature. In our country the trees have been cut down thoughtlessly for domestic requirements, fuels etc. We needed land for agriculture, railways, roadways and industrial areas and for this trees are cutting down on larger scale. As a result we suffered from pollution. The government of our country passed the Forest Preservation Act in 1980 for the welfare of trees.

Trees are very important for our life. They give us fruits to eat, cool shade to rest and medicines too.The trees replace the oxygen, used up by all the living things. They make our atmosphere free from pollution . Trees are our friends. Therefore we must never cut down the trees. On the other hand we should plant as many trees as we can. Our government has started 'Van Mahotsava" to inspire the people for planting more and more trees.
