Functions of the seed coat

1. It is the outermost covering of the seed. 

2. It protects the delicate inner parts of the seeds from injury related to variation in temperature, water-related damage, or any other physical injury. 

3. The seed coat also ensures that the plant seed remains in a state of dormancy until conditions are right for the plant embryo to germinate. 

Functions of the cotyledons 

1. They are the first part of a plant to emerge from the seed.

2. They provide seed with the nutrition for the nourishment of the embryo during germination.

3. Cotyledons act as an energy source for a plant and functions to provide the initial growth to them.
