let age of husband = x
age of wife = y

As given

Average age of husband and wife = 23 years
So total age = 23*2 = 46 years
thus x+y = 46

After 5 years, 
age of husband = x+5
age of wife = y+5
age of child = 1
toal age of family = (x+5)+(y+5)+1 = x+y + 5 + 5 + 1
                            = 46 + 5 + 5 + 1
                            = 57
total members = 3
Average age of family = 57÷3 = 19 years.
