Spectrum of light - The speed of light rays of different colours remains same in vaccum and air but in any other medium, light rays travel with the different speed and bend through the different angles, which leads to the dispersion of light.

The rays of different colours have different speed in certain medium so the refractive index of the prism is different index of the prism is different for light of different colours.

Thus the white light gets dispersed into different colous.
