Chemical formula of washing soda is Na_{2}CO_{3} when baking soda is heated, sodium carbonate, water and CO_{2} are produced, sodium carbonate obtained is dissolve in water and crystals of washing soda are obtained by crystallization.

2NaHCO_{3}\overset{\Delta }{\rightarrow}NO_{2}CO_{3}+H_{2}O+CO_{2}

Uses of washing soda are :

1. It act as water saftner.

2. Sodium carbonate covers and kills spores.

3. It can also be used in textile and petroleum refining.
