As we have learned

For each question, the student can either attempt it correctly or incorrectly: so 2 options for each question

So, for 10 questions, total ways to attempt are 2.2......2 (10 times) = 210

But in one of these ways, he will attempt all questions incorrectly

So, required number of ways = 2 ^{10 } - 1 = 1023
