Optically active polyhydroxy aldehydes and ketones or substances which give such compounds on hydrolysis

- Made up of carbon , hydrogen and oxygen atoms , (C_{n}(H_{2}O)_{m})

- Eg. Sugars , cellulose , starch.

 

 The biuret test is a chemical test used for detecting the presence of peptide bond. Carbohydrates donot have peptide bonds.
