  • Gram negative, photosynthetic, prokaryotes.
  • Contain chlorophyll – a, carotene, phycobilin.
  • Cell membrane lacks sterol.
  • Reserve food material is cyanophycin protein, Cyanophycean starch, lipid globules.
  • Non flagellate, moment by gliding motion,
  • Some of them can fix atmospheric nitrogen in heterocysts.
