The Carnot engines A and B are operated in series. the first one, A recieves heat at T1 (=600K) and rejects to a reservoir at temperature T2. The second engine B recieves heat rejected by the first engine and turn, rejects to a heat reservior at T3(=400K). calculate the tempearture T2 if work outputs of the two engines are equal:

  • Option 1)

    500 K

Efficiency of a carnot cycle -

\eta =\frac{W}{Q_{1}}=1-\frac{T_{2}}{T_{1}}

T_{1}\, and\, T_{2}  are in kelvin

- wherein

T_{1}= Source temperature

T_{2}= Sink Temperature

W_{1}=W_{2}

\Delta U_{1}=\Delta U_{2}

T_{3}- T_{2}=T_{2}- T_{1}

2\: T_{2}=T_{1}+ T_{3}

T_{2}=500 K

\left ( T_{1} > T_{2}\right )

Option 1)

500 K

Option 2)

300K

Option 3)

600K

Option 4)

400 K
