Normality , indicates the concentration of a solution. It is defined as the gram equivalent weight per liter of solution.

The Reaction for the Chemical Process is:

Ca+ 1/2 O_2 =CaO\\ CaO +H_2O = Ca(OH)_2

The weight of Ca =40 g
The molar weight of CaO =40 +16 =56
Molar weight of Ca(OH)_2  = 74
40 grams of Ca produces 74 grams of Ca(OH)_2
1 gram of Ca is equivalent to 74/40 gram Ca(OH)_2  = 1.85
Or

1.85/37 = 0.05 gram equivalent of Ca(OH)_2  Equivalent weight of Ca(OH)_2  is  37.
Therefore if 0.05gram is dissolved in 1Lit we get  0.05N  Ca(OH)_2  solution.

This can be verified as

0.05N Ca(OH)_2 equals 0.05*37 =1.85 gram and Ca(OH)_2 =40/74*1.85 =1gram Ca.

So , Normality=0.05N
