given that

City X is at a distance of 560 km from City Y.

A train starts from City Y to City X at 6 a.m. with a speed of 40 kmph.

Another train starts from City X to City Y at 7 a.m. with a speed of 60 kmph.

Find: At what distance from City Y will the two trains be at the point of crossing?

solution:

let at distance x from city Y

that mean distance traveled by train A is 560-x and time taken is t+1 hr

distance traveled by train B is x and time taken is t hr

\\ \Rightarrow x=60t\ and\ 40(t+1)=560-x\\ 40t+40=560-60t\\ 100t=520\\ t=5.2hr\\ \text{distance from city Y is } 60(5.2)=312km

Let the meeting time of train from x be t. The distance travelled in time t=d

So the meeting time of train from y is t-1. The distance travelled in time t-1=560-d

\\\frac{d}{40}=\frac{560-d}{60}\\\\6d=560\times4-4x\\10d=560\times4\\d=56\times4=224Km

So the train meets at 224 km from x and 560-224=336km from y
