Option: 2

Decrease in m.p. from \mathrm{BeCl}_{2} to \mathrm{BaCl}_{2}

As we move down the group, due to increase in cation size, their tendency to make ionic compounds increases. Therefore, the lattice energy decreases with increase in the size of the cation.; their melting point increase as we move down the group; solubility increases down the group. Hence, (1), (2) and (3) are incorrect.

However, the chlorides of group 2 metals are hygroscopic (moisture absorbing) and the tendency to form halide hydrates gradually decreases, for example , \mathrm{CaCl}_{2} \cdot 6 \mathrm{H}_{2} \mathrm{O}, \mathrm{SrCl}_{2} \cdot 6 \mathrm{H}_{2} \mathrm{O} and \mathrm{BaCl}_{2} \cdot 2 \mathrm{H}_{2} \mathrm{O} down the group
