Assertion: Generally, dicotyledons plants have tap roots while monocotyledonous plants have fibrous roots

Reason: The roots in some plants get modified for storage of food, mechanical support and respiration.

It is true that dicotyledonous plants have tap roots while monocotyledonous plants have fibrous roots Hence, the assertion statement is correct.

In some plants, the roots change their shape and get modified to absorb and transport water and minerals from the soil to different parts of the plant. They are also adjusted for support, food storage, and respiration.

Hence, the assertion is correct but the reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion which is option 2.
