Which among the following statement is incorrect regarding the diagonal relationship between \mathrm{Al} and \mathrm{Be} ?

Option: 1

\mathrm{BeO} and \mathrm{Al}_{2} \mathrm{O}_{3} are amphoteric in nature.

Option: 2

\mathrm{Al}_{4} \mathrm{C}_{3} and \mathrm{Be}_{2} \mathrm{C} give same gas on hydrolysis.

Option: 3

Beryllium oxide and aluminium oxide are amphoteric in nature.

Beryllium carbide and aluminium carbide on hydrolysis produces methane gas.

\mathrm{Be}_{2} \mathrm{C}+4 \mathrm{H}_{2} \mathrm{O} \rightarrow 2 \mathrm{Be}(\mathrm{OH})_{2}+\mathrm{CH}_{4}
\mathrm{Al}_{4} \mathrm{C}_{3}+12 \mathrm{H}_{2} \mathrm{O} \rightarrow 4 \mathrm{Al}(\mathrm{OH})_{3}+3 \mathrm{CH}_{4}

Due to similar charge/ radius ratios of beryllium and aluminium ions have strong tendency to form complexes. Be shows maximum co-ordination number 4 while due to presence of vacant d-orbitals Al shows maximum co-ordination number 6 .

Both the elements can form covalent bonds. Both aluminium and beryllium hydrides are electron deficient and so, they need to form dative bonds with neighboring molecules
