Q 12.13 Give simple chemical tests to distinguish between the following pairs of compounds.
(v) Pentan-2-one and Pentan-3-one

They can be distinguished by iodoform test,
This test is given by compounds having methyl ketone group. So, pentan-2-one give this test and pentan-3-one does not.
Pentan-2-one is a methyl ketone and hence responds to the iodoform test, but Pentan-3-one is not. As a result, it does not respond to the iodoform test and no reaction occurs.
