9. Which part of the plant is best suited for making virus-free plants and why?
To make virus-free plants, apical and axillary meristems are used. These regions of diseased plants do not catch virus infection. This is because the rate of division of meristematic cells is higher than the rate of multiplication of viruses. So the viruses are unable to invade newly formed meristematic cells. Thus from diseased plants, disease-free plants can be obtained by growing their apical and axillary meristems.
