a) To convert alternating current into direct current student will use full-wave rectifier. A rectifier in which both half cycles of input alternating current are rectified is known as a full-wave rectifier. A commonly used full-wave rectifier is Centre tap full-wave Rectifier

During the positive half cycle of the input signal, the end A becomes positive and end B becomes negative Now the diode D1 is forward biased and diode D2 is reverse biased, hence diode D1 conducts current Therefore output will be obtained across the load resistor RL
During the negative half cycle of the input signal, the end A becomes negative and end B becomes positive. Now the diode D1 is reverse biased and diode D2 is forward biased. Hence diode D2 conducts current Therefore output will be obtained across the load resistor RL
Here we get output voltage during both positive as well as negative half cycles. The centre tapped transformer helps to flow current in the same direction during both half cycles.
