(a) The three segments of n-p-n transistor are ;

  • Emitter            Base             and             Collector

Difference between these on the basis of their size and level of doping ;

1. Emitter

2. Base

3. Collector

The emitter is a moderate size

The base is a very thin

The collector size is slightly more than the emitter region

It is a heavily doped semiconductor.  its size is more than base but less than the collector

Its doping intensity is less than emitter and collector

The collector terminal is moderately doped.

(b) Plotting of graph ;

In the above graph, the active region of the transfer characteristics is used for the amplification purpose. This is because in this region I_{C} increases almost linearly with the increase of V_{i}.
