(a) Draw an L.S. of pistil showing pollen tube entering into the embryo sac. Label the following :
(i) Nucellus
(ii) Antipodals
(iii) Synergids
(iv) Micropyle
(b) Write the functions of the following :
(i) Synergids
(ii) Micropyle
a).
b) i) Synergids- The synergids have special cellular thickenings at the micropylar tip called filiform apparatus, which play an important role in guiding the pollen tubes into the synergid.
ii) Micropyle- The micropyle is remaining as small pore in the seed coat. During seed germination, this facilitates the entry of oxygen and water into the seed.
