Answers (1)

(a) When the unpolarized light is incident on the boundary between two transparent media, the reflected light is polarised with its electric vector perpendicular to the plane of incidence and the refracted and reflected rays make a right angle with each other.

(b)

(i) The polarising angle (i_{p}) is,

i_{p}=90^{\circ}-r_{p}

i_{p}=90^{\circ}-30^{\circ}

i_{p}=60^{\circ}

(ii) The Refractive index is

\mu =tan 60

\mu =1.732
