A hydrogen atom in the ground state is excited by an electron beam of 12.5\; eV energy. Find out the maximum number of lines emitted by the atom from its excited state.

Answers (1)

    The energy in the ground state, E_{1}=-13.6\; eV

    The energy supplied is =12.5\; eV

then,

    the energy in the excited state will be ;

        E_{n}=-13.6+12.5

        E_{n}=-1.1\; eV

    E_{n}=\frac{-13.6}{n^{2}}

Therefore

    n=3

The maximum no. of lines =3
