(a) In Young's double-slit experiment, two slits are 1 mm apart and the screen is placed 1 m away from the sits. Calculate the fringe width when the light of wavelength 500 nm is used.

a) Fring width

\beta =\frac{\lambda D}{d}

given, d= I mm

          D= I m

          \lambda =500 nm

\beta =\frac{500\times 10^{-9}\times 1}{1\times 10^{-3}}

     =500\; mm

     =5\times 10^{-4}m

b) given

\frac{2\lambda D}{a }=10\beta

 a=\frac{2\lambda D}{10\beta }

  =\frac{2\times 500\times 10^{-9}\times 1}{10\times 500\times 10^{-6}}

=0.2\times 10^{-3}m

a=0.2 \; mm
