A part of monthly hostel charges in a college hostel are fixed and the remaining depends on the number of days one has taken food in the mess. When a student A takes food for 25 days, he has to pay Rs.4500, whereas a student B who takes food for 30 days, has to pay Rs.5200. Let the fixed changes be x

Let the charge per day br y

For student Ax+25y=4500

For student Bx+30y=5200

Now we have 2 equation with two variable, lets solve the subtract eq. (i) from (ii)

\begin{matrix} x+30y=5200 & & \\ x+25y=4500 & & \\ 5y=700& & \end{matrix}

\Rightarrow y=\frac{700}{5}=140\Rightarrow y=140

Putting value of y in eq (i)

\Rightarrow x+25\times 140=4500

\Rightarrow x=4500-3500

\Rightarrow x=1000

Fix charges =1000\; Rs

Charges per day =140\; Rs
