Profit per pen = Rs 1

Loss per pencil = 40 paise = Rs 0.40

Assume she x pencil in the month.

Net loss = x(0.40) - 45(1)

5 = x(0.4) - 45

x = 50/.4 = 125

Hence she sold 125 pencils in this month.
