Given Total weight of baggage = 950 lb
Let one has x lb of baggage, then the other will have (x+150) lb

According to the question,

x + (x+150) = 950
⇒ 2x + 150 = 950
⇒ 2x = 950-150 = 800
⇒ x = 800/2
⇒ x = 400 lb
So, x+150 = 400+150 = 550 lb

So one compartment has 400 lb and other has 550 lb of baggage.
