(a) The property of short-range of nuclear force explains the consistency of binding energy per nucleon \left [\frac{BE}{A} \right ] for nuclei in the range 20 < A <170.

(b) (i) It is \beta^-decay

The reaction is

_{15}^{32}P\rightarrow _{Z}^{A}P+e^{-}+\overline{v}

in this,

A= 32

Z =16

(ii) It is a fusion reaction,

_{6}^{12}C+_{6}^{12}C\rightarrow _{Z}^{A}Y+_{2}^{4}He

So,

Y= Ne

A= 20

z=10
