ABO blood group in humans is contributed by ‘I’ gene , that has three alleles 'I_{A}','I_{B}' and 'i'

- Because human beings are diploid each persons has two of three alleles.

'I_{A}' and'I_{B}' produce two different types of sugar while allele 'i' does not produce sugar on the plasma membrance of the RBC.

- When 'I_{A}' and'I_{B}' are present they both express their own type of sugar - this is codominance.
